The Somers Women's Club awarded Kathyrn Chryssikos the Mary Cardinale Service Award for community service. The award, named to honor Mary Cardinale who was active as a volunteer in Somers, is awarded each year to a Somers High school graduating senior and includes a cash prize of $500.
According to LoHud,com, Chryssikos "was chosen because of her leadership skills, as well as the spirit of dedication to school and community that she has demonstrated." The news story also states that: She has served as president of the National Honor Society, as well as a peer leader for the freshman class. She has organized school fundraisers to benefit Le Carpio, a refugee camp in Costa Rica. Kathryn has run winter track for three years; played lacrosse, where she was captain of the JV team; and played field hockey, where she was captain of the JV and varsity teams. She is president of the Greek Orthodox Youth Association and is actively involved in running its annual Greek festival. Kathryn will be attending Marist College in Poughkeepsie.
