Library Lecture: Protecting the Family Jewels

Protecting Your Family Jewelry is the topic of the program to be held at the Somers Library on June 14 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.
The library's description of the event is:
Learn the facts your should know about fine jewelry: security measures, proper care of jewelry, buying and selling, insurance guidelines, & estate planning. Please do not bring jewelry to this event - it is not an appraisal clinic & no jewelry will be bought or sold
The presenter is Joe Brandt of J. L. Brandt Co., Inc. located in Connecticut. He has over 40 years of personal experience in the jewelry industry, and is a second generation jeweler.

Tracey Rojas, Softball Mom

As part of its "Mom in the stands" series, LoHud interviewed Tracey Rojas mother of Somers High School softball player Ciera Rojas. One question from the interview:

What's it like in the stands at a Somers softball game? Somers softball has a great parental following, so it is always fun, loud and exciting. Our AD, Roman Catalino, has come through, giving softball the respect it deserves by putting up a fence and promising to fix up our field. The girls are rather excited.

3 men arrested in Buchanan home invasion

Drop Off Food on June 22/23

Westchester County government is once again hosting a two-day food drive. The Town of Somers is assisting by accepting donations at the Town of Somers Town House/ Elephant Hotel on Tuesday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 23. All food donations will go to Food Bank for Westchester.

Households requesting assistance from the Food Bank are up 22% this year. Help your neighbors!

According to the Town's web site, the most needed items include:

Cereals: hot or cold (corn flakes, frosted flakes, fruit loops, oat meal, grits)
Canned meats: spam, ham, meat spread, beef stew, chicken, and corned beef
Canned fish: tuna, salmon, sardines, mackerel
Canned or dry beans: kidney, lentils, butter beans, great northern, lima
Canned soups: with beans, chicken, ham or beef
Peanut butter
Macaroni and cheese
Canned ravioli
Canned spaghetti & meat balls
Drink mixes: iced tea, Kool Aid, Tang
100 percent juices in plastic bottle or can
Milk: canned or powdered
Canned juices
Coffee or tea
Hot chocolate
Fruits and vegetables
Canned fruits
Canned vegetables
Canned spaghetti sauce
Dried fruits: raisins, apricots, prunes

Somers Town Board To Meet

The Somers Town Board is holding a regular meeting on June 10. A continued public hearing is scheduled for the Cablevision Franchise renewal. A special event is that Girl Scout Troop 1412 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
